Multimedia Journalist
Week 2
Personal Project
I completed the second pass of grading, initial audio edit and achieved vision lock for my feature film, Aphelion. I also created a temporary poster and an initial trailer so it could be entered into the Sydney Film Festival through Filmfreeway. Video hosted by my co-producer Jon Cohen of Ravenswood Films
Screen III Film Production
After my screenplay was selected in week 1 and groups formed, I chose and was assigned the role of Director of Photography. After leading the initial meetings to get the team on track, I have let go and allowed the other students to fullfill their role with confidence. I found several potential cast members on Starnow and passed on the details to the rest of the crew to contact and audition.

Before and during the tutorial I discussed the creative direction with the Director and team, using their script notes to edit a final version of the screenplay ready for production. I also wrote the tagline and synopsis.

I arranged to have access to professional production equipment for the shoot, including lights, stands, shotbags, additonal grip gear, and a Panasonic EVA1. I plan to use a selection of cannon prime cinema lenses for the desired look.
Class Activity
The intention was a short chase scene finishing with a change in shooting style / transition. We started hand-held, giving a sense of urgency and action, but kepot the mood light and fun. The final shot switched to a long, stable shot on a tripod and dolly to signify a transition within the main character no longer feeling threatened. Acting, I advised with blocking, story elements, shot choice and use of equipment, but mostly let the other members of the team experiment and make the final creative decisions. We could have been more inventive with shot choices, expecially on the stairs, and used a few more cutaways.
